The main highlight of the walk was mud – so let’s get that out of the way!

The walks started from near Stoulton. A proper weather vane and some berries caught our eyes. Weather was great, quite warm after the week before’s snowfall.

We passed through the small village of Wadborough which had a couple of nice buildings including what we think was the old village post office. We had to negotiate a path with a very unusual warning sign, but it wasn’t a joke, these rabbits were fully signed up members of the NUM. Then there are always sheep .

We then reached Drakes Broughton. It was somewhere around here we examined (our leader of the day) Keith’s Pit of Doom where on a previous walk he fell down a large hole hidden by brambles and had to be rescued. As Keith refused to re-enact the event, there are no pictures, I’m afraid. The church there had a striking wooden spire topped with a very ornamental weather cock. Not to be outdone, the local primary school had a very unusual bird nestling in the tree outside. We also always enjoy an alpaca sighting.

We then returned back to Stoulton, passing a house where the owner was a bit of a joker, and some of us shuddered with childhood memories of outside toilets. The walk was rounded off with some interesting architecture in Stoulton, the church and houses.

Then it was back to the cars, thanks to Keith for a entertaining walk and then a snooze on the way home, except for the drivers.
