15 of us gathered under the walls of Kenilworth Castle on a bright but chilly day. After walking through the grounds of the castle we were soon in the countryside, enjoying the firm, dry ground.

Though the trees are still bare, everywhere else there were signs of Spring.

We saw quite a lot of farm animals, and were surprised by just how many alpacas were gathered together as we passed a farm near Rouncil Lane. The alpacas were happy to pose and show their best sides.

We picnicked in a field watching lambs gambolling around, a gaggle of 7 or 8 racing around playfully. We then returned towards Keniworth and noticed the concrete remains of a Second World War gun battery by the side of the bridleway, positioned to protect Birmingham from the Luftwaffe bombing raids.

After 7 miles we were back at Kenilworth Castle and thanked David for a great walk.

The walk (linked here) he chose was one developed as part of the Millennium Way project, which is a 100 mile linear walk across the Midlands. It was a project developed by the 41 Club to celebrate the year 2000. (41 Club is a club for ex-Round Tablers like those in our local Knowle and Dorridge Round Table who run Dorridge Day, a Beer Festival and Santa’s Sleigh all while getting together to enjoy each other’s company).
