Event Type

Leader: Ian

Location: Knowle
Distance: 7.5 miles
Start: 20 Barnbrook Road, Knowle, B93 9PW to depart at 9:45am.
Directions: By car, from Knowle High Street, head towards Solihull down the hill. At the roundabout, take the left to Langfield Road. After a couple of hundred yards, the road bends sharp left. Take the right hand turn on this corner by the post box, Barnbrook Road. Follow the road round the corner, and the second house on the right after the turning area is no. 20. Park on the drive if space, or on the road. By foot, from the top of Longdon Road, there is a footpath which skirts the golf course, follow this round until you are by the practice area. There is a footpath on the corner that leads to Barnbrook Road. Alternatively, from Copt Heath Drive, follow the drive to Holbeche Drive. In the left hand corner, there is an alleyway that leads through to Langfield Road. From the cul-de-sac, turn right and Barnbrook is on the left after a few hundred yards. The later meet time is chosen to encourage those who are close enough to walk to the start.

Description: The forecast is uncertain but it could be snowy or frozen, therefore I have chosen to do a local walk, parts of which no doubt will be familiar. From Chez Nous, we walk through the golf course, across the Warwick Road and through to Eastcote. From there onto Walsal End and then back to Barston then Temple Balsall. Depending on weather, there are ample opportunities to shorten the walk. When checking the walk on Friday when we had snow and ice, the route was easily passible, though care had to be taken with the unusual amount of ice mixed with the snow on tarmacked surfaces.

Lunch: As it is likely to be cold and we are local, I am not planning a lunch stop, just bring suitable energy-giving treats. We should be back in Knowle for about 1pm.
