Description:

This is a circular walk that takes in woodland, fields, paths and tracks. It is varied in effort needed, being hilly, with an extra push being required on the final leg leading back to Broadway Tower car park, café and refreshments.

We will set off from the car park south through Broadway Wood heading west towards Snowshill, alongside the bluebell fields, through the village to head north west then north towards Broadway along Cotswold Way, bypassing Laverton and Buckland, then stopping for facilities and lunch in Broadway. This should take just over 2 hours. For the return we will walk a short distance along the main road to reconnect with Cotswold Way heading south east and upwards on a steady, but not arduous climb back to Broadway Tower. This leg should take about 1.5 hours.

I have deliberately shortened this walk to preserve stamina for the final hurdle and to mitigate against any hot weather that may drain us further on the day.

Weather forecast from the BBC:           The forecast for Broadway, Worcestershire on July 19, 2026, indicates a high temperature of around 25°C to 26°C with light rain showers and gentle northeasterly breezes. You can expect mostly cloudy skies and periods of drizzle throughout the day, cooling to an overnight low around 12°C to 15°C

Lunch:

We will stop for lunch in Broadway where there are many benches along the main road / high street should you wish to bring a packed lunch. Alternatively, there is a small café with an outside seating area,  “Leaf and Bean”, located on the corner of the arcade towards the car park where the conveniences are located. The timing of the walk suggests we should be in Broadway between 12:15 – 12:30, hopefully just missing the main lunch rush.

Toilets:                              There are public conveniences in Broadway close to where we will stop for lunch.

Directions to start point. I take the following route through Welford on Avon, Long Marston and Mickleton:

  1. Head towards Stratford through Henley in Arden on the A3400. At the A46 roundabout before hitting Stratford, take the fourth exit directed towards Evesham and Alcester.
  2. At the next roundabout (where the new southern relief road is being built) turn right on the A46 towards Alcester.
  3. After approx. 1 mile, turn left towards Temple Grafton and Binton. At the Blue Boar crossroads, turn left, go through Binton until you meet the A439.
  4. Turn right then immediately left towards Welford on Avon. Go through the village, through Long Marston until you meet the B4632. Turn right towards Mickleton, through the village then left at the mini roundabout at the end of the village onto the B4081 towards Chipping Campden.
  5. At the first T junction on the B4081, turn left then first right soon after. Keep on this road as it changes name until you meet the A44 opposite the entrance to Broadway Tower and alongside the picnic area.
  6. Enter the Tower access road and take the turning to the main hard standing car park prior to a sharp left bend and park immediately in front of the café and outdoor seating.

Car journey:     About 1 hour by car from Bentley Heath and about 30 miles one-way.
